Graduate Student Support Grants

Political Science MA students can apply for the following grants.Ìý

  • The Summer Camps for Methods Training Grants fund up to three students each year for up to $2,000 to attend summer methods training camps (e.g., Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, Institute for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research).
  • The Lynn Miller Writing Grants annually fund up to eight students in the prospects or dissertation stage for up to $100 to attend writing retreats.
  • The Graduate Opportunity Grants fund up to three students per semester for up to $500 to attend professional conferences to present scholarly research.

College of Liberal Arts Grants and Awards

The Center for the Humanities at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø (CHAT) grants scholar awards to graduate and doctoral students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. CHAT makes funding available for interdisciplinary research groups to pursue scholarly connections across multiple disciplines and fields of study. .

The Global Studies program supports activities and research with an international or global focus. Funding is available for student organizations and for research projects. .

Research and Teaching Assistantships 

As a graduate student, you may apply for a research or teaching assistantship.

  • Research assistantships are awarded competitively. Research assistants work up to 20 hours a week and are compensated with a basic health insurance plan, a stipend and tuition remission.
  • Teaching assistantships typically require you to work 20 hours a week in support of the department’s undergraduate programs. You’ll be compensated with a basic health insurance plan, nine credits of tuition remission per term and a nine-month stipend.

Graduate Fellowships

Fellowships are available through °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹Ù꿉۪s graduate school for students with exceptional academic records. They include

  • presidential fellowships, which are reserved for only the most outstanding candidates; and
  • university fellowships, which are intended to support students who demonstrate outstanding potential for success in their chosen fields.

These fellowships provide a stipend plus tuition for two years. .

University Scholarships

The Phi Delta Gamma Scholarship Fund award goes to a graduate student who demonstrates outstanding scholarship and evidence of community service.

Certain organizations outside of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø provide grants, fellowships, scholarships and other awards for graduate students.

Federal Financial Aid

Federal Stafford Loans

Applying for federal Stafford loans requires completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). At °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø, unsubsidized Stafford loans are available to full-time graduate students up to a maximum amount of $20,500 annually.

Federal Work-study

Eligibility for the Federal Work-study Program is based on the applicant’s need as determined by the information on the applicant’s FAFSA. In addition, students must be enrolled at least half time and maintain satisfactory academic progress. Students are paid biweekly for hours worked.
