Admission to Tyler鈥檚 degree programs is based on a review of academic credentials as well as a portfolio review, depending on the program.听听

High School Students

International Students

Apply as an international student if you hold or will need to obtain a nonimmigrant visa, including a student (F-1) or an exchange visitor (J-1) visa.

Students applying for admission into Tyler鈥檚 art education, art therapy, graphic and interactive design, studio art, and visual studies programs must also submit a portfolio. Studio art includes ceramics, fibers and material studies, glass, metals/jewelry/CAD-CAM, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.听

Portfolios are optional for those applying to architecture and environmental design programs. If submitting a portfolio for architecture and environmental design programs, please include any creative or technical work done in the past two years.听

Portfolio Requirements听

Portfolios should consist of 10 to 20 pieces of original artwork, including the following.听

  • Examples of drawing from direct observation regardless of the major you wish to pursue. Examples should show a wide range of values and strong composition.听

  • Work in both black and white and color media听
  • Ceramics, graphic design, fibers, glass, jewelry or metal work, paintings, photography, prints, sculpture, or time-based media听
  • Transfer students should include examples of work completed in college-level studio courses for placement purposes.听

In addition to original artwork, written responses to the following must be included.听

  • Your intended major听

  • A list of art and/or design courses taken in school, pre-college program or community organization听

  • How Tyler can support you in reaching your personal and professional goals听

  • Your process for one of the projects in your portfolio听

  • Who or what influenced you to pursue an education in an art, architecture or built environment discipline听

Applicants who submit a portfolio will automatically be considered for a . If submitting more than 10 images, only the first 10 will be reviewed for scholarship consideration.听
